We have had a super busy time over the last month here at South Lanarkshire NAS. After all the trips and activities over the summer we started the Autumn with a special open evening at teen group to welcome new members. Our teen group has been running successfully for over 5 years now and this term looks sure to be busy with lots of varied activities in store. Already this term we have visited Geek Retreat in Glasgow and met some amazing lizards at our reptile night. Our forthcoming Enchanted Forest trip is currently being eagerly anticipated and we will report back on how awesome it was next month.

Our adult coffee group has been meeting up every Thursday night for several months now and our regulars decided it was time to venture further afield. They got together and enjoyed a tranquil canal cruise down Kirkintilloch loch. The weather was kind and the scenery and wildlife we saw was absolutely stunning. They enjoyed it so much we will be repeating this again next year.

Everyone who has started attending our new ASD adult Relaxation class this month was very chilled out after learning self hand massage techniques and calming breathing exercises. This class is a pilot project for 5 fortnightly sessions and if successful will continue after that. Those joining us can enjoy taster sessions of Aromatherapy, Breathing exercises’, crystal and colour therapies. If you are interested in joining us please get in touch with the branch.

Support KeySUPPORT DROP IN SESSIONS

Support and information along with comfy surrounding, friendly company and a cuppa have been on hand as usual at our weekly drop in support sessions. These are on every Wednesday from 10am till 12 noon, 1st Floor of Atholl House, Churchill ave. No need to book just turn up, there is always someone available to talk through any issues you may be having or point you in the right direction for the help you need. Once a month we also host speakers who come along to talk on various Autism & caring related subjects. Also once a month is our Reiki Healing session where visitors to the drop in can access free Reiki therapy from our experienced and very lovely reiki therapist.

PUTTING THE ‘FUN’ IN FUNDRAISING

Earlier this month we were Rockin’ the night away at our very successful fundraiser gig night at the Westwood bar.’ Losferwords’ had everyone up on the dance floor and the night raised an amazing £900+. Funds were further boosted by very generous donations from Scotmid and Clyde FC. Scotmids donation was used to buy some sensory equipment and portable dark dens that can be used at events and outings.

GHOST HUNTING

This month saw many of us once again donning warm clothing and arming ourselves with torches as we set out on our annual fundraiser Ghost hunt. This year we braved the creepy disused swimming baths at Govanhill. It was a very successful night and everyone survived to raise lots of funds for our charity.

SNORING SHARKS!

The highlight of this month’s events has to be our amazing shark sleepover at Sea Life Centre, Loch Lomond. The event saw 30 adventurers spending the night under the sea with the sharks and other sea creatures and raised an amazing £2500. Careful planning and preparation helped make the night a huge success and we were amazed at how well the kids coped with the change of routine as this was way out of their comfort zones. Well done to all our brave sea adventures we are so very proud of you all.

LEGOLAND

Preparations are well underway for our forthcoming trip to Legoland Windsor. After applications closer earlier in the month we had the very difficult task of picking out 22 families who would be joining us on the trip. The lucky Lego adventurers will be joining us for a 2 night break including travel, accommodation , breakfast and entry to Legoland Windsor. Many of our families have never been on a trip like this before and it will be challenging but also hugely fun. We can’t wait to find out if everything is really awesome in Legoland!
