Instead of a traditional Christmas party, we decided to do something just a little bit different. Using funds raised throughout the year, we arranged for a number of families to attend the New Lanark Christmas Experience for a day full of fun and Christmas cheer!
We started the day off with the Christmas Through the Ages ride where the children got to see what Christmas would have been like for the Children of New Lanark many years ago. We then had a look around the mill workings and shop before heading on to Santa’s Grotto where the children enjoyed the beautiful Christmas display and got to meet Santa – who was happy to encourage everyone to join him in a little bit of carol singing!
There was time to enjoy both the schoolroom and the well equipped Sensory Gallery before tucking into a delicious lunch.
The afternoon was rounded off by attending the short Pantomime where everyone thoroughly enjoyed a selection pack full of goodies!
This was a great way to round off our year and it was great to see ASD families being able to enjoy themselves. One family got in touch to tell us that it was the first time they had been out as a family since their son’s diagnosis and they felt so comfortable knowing that no-one was judging them. We hope to be able to do this again soon and give even more families this kind of opportunity.
