Our main aim is to raise awareness of autism and Asperger syndrome within South Lanarkshire. We feel it is particularly important to target the professionals that deal with our folks on a day to day basis. We have therefore undertaken the following projects.

Education Packs

In June 2005, we provided an information pack for over 300 nurseries, primary and secondary schools. Read more here.

GP - Doctors Information Pack

In October 2004, we put together an information pack for the 80 GP surgeries and A&E departments throughout South Lanarkshire. The pack included survey results from a 2003 study of GPs undertaken by the NAS and a copy of the excellent book Health Care and the Autism Spectrum. "Often visits to the doctor can be traumatic for people with autism," said Ross. "We hope that by providing doctors with this valuable book that we can help in making surgery visits less stressful, particularly in incidents that require A&E care. And, by raising awareness among doctors, we hope that less people will fall through net and get the support they need."
