Progress

Margo Mooney had contacted Ellen to say that there was a possibility Children’s Integrated Services may take on PALS role in administering both pre-school and primary school age schemes. Margo had told Caroline that there was a meeting regarding this soon, but funding for pre-school children was secured for Easter, Summer and October 2004, and she was looking for names of children as soon as possible.

Although the meeting did not have a quorum, discussion took place on the way forward. Caroline told the meeting that all parents on the management committee felt they could not commit the time and effort involved in trying to source funding through grant applications, as it appeared South Lanarkshire Council and NHS funding was going to be restricted to the funding given to Leisure Services for playschemes for all children with disabilities and the pre-school scheme run by Sure Start.

Those present also felt they could not make this commitment, and all felt it was unrealistic to expect any parent to be able to do this. Caroline also mentioned that her son and Ellen’s son were fast approaching an age where they would no longer be eligible for Leisure Services Scheme. The feeling of those present was that if PALS was to continue, it could only be in an advisory capacity to professionals who would be prepared to source funding, organise and administer schemes.

On a more positive note, the parents present felt optimistic that the provision that happened in the summer would probably continue in years to come, indeed the pre-school school is guaranteed for 2004.

Those present agreed to wait on feedback from Children’s Integrated Services as to what role they would be able to play and then decide on the way forward.

Donation

Sheena Henderson donated £291 to PALS, as a result of sponsorship money raised when she ran the Woman’s 10k Race. Caroline has written to thank Sheena.
