Monday 17th May to Monday 24th May was Autism Awareness Week 2004, the theme of which was Planning for Life.
The National Autistic Society prepared a report A Place In Society: The Importance of Planning for Life. The report highlights that ASD is a lifelong disability and not, as many people perceive, a childhood condition. As a result, the difficulties people with an ASD have with social interaction, communication and imagination will continue through life and they will require services to meet their needs through out their lives.
We had a stand in Centre West, East Kilbride on Saturday 15th May from 10am until 4pm. with a range of information available as well as members of the committee being available to talk to anyone interested in autism and Asperger syndrome. We would like to thank the Card Factory, The Plaza for filling our balloons with helium.

We met lots of people on the day. Many parents, grandparents and relatives of people with autism who were unaware of our group. We also met
up with many professionals working with people with autism, from teachers to employment specialists who assists older individuals into the work place. we
would like to thank everyone who took an interest in autism and also Ellen Muir and Caroline Tait for helping out on the day.
We held a coffee morning and jumble sale at Claremont Parish Church, St Leonards, East Kilbride on Saturday 22nd May to raise funds and awareness of autism. The event raised £300 for branch funds and introduced a few new people to the group.
Our thanks go to Nancy Macfadyen for arranging the coffee morning, and to Caroline & Ellen for helping out.
