Autism and Asperger syndrome are lifelong conditions that affect over 520,000 people in the UK occurring in varying degrees of severity. There may be up to 5,670 people with autism or Asperger's syndrome in Lanarkshire.

We are the South Lanarkshire branch of The National Autistic Society (NAS), and have 300 members throughout the council area including Cambuslang, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Rutherglen and Strathaven. We rely on the kindness of donations and sponsors to carry out our work.

The NAS provides services, support and advice to those affected by autism and their carers. The NAS Autism Helpine is available from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday on 0845 070 4004.

We aim to offer support to parents and carers of individuals with autism or Asperger syndrome. We do this through monthly meetings, by telephone/email and regularly publish a newsletter. We also hold events that provide opportunities for social contact for the children and to allow them to share experiences with the whole family. We also seek to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in South Lanarkshire: both in the general public and throughout the professional agencies that work with those affected by ASD.

We intend this web site to be a place for parents, carers and professionals within the field of ASD. We very much consider this web site to be continually "under construction". If you have any information you think should be added, please email us.
